Saturday, September 6: Historic Edition of the Gulf Marathon : twenty Athletes from Eight Nations, Ambassador Ginevra Taddeucci
Sixty years of history, sport, and emotion. The Capri-Napoli, the world-famous open-water swimming marathon, will celebrate its 60th edition on Saturday, September 6, staying true to tradition: once again, Le Ondine Beach Club in Marina Grande will host the start of the legendary 36 km crossing that links the Blue Island to the Circolo Canottieri Napoli.
An iconic location that, thanks to the generosity of host Gemma Rocchi, transforms the anticipation of the competition every year into a festive and welcoming moment for athletes, staff, and fans. From Le Ondine, the race for the Trofeo Vecchio Amaro del Capo will kick off at 10:00 a.m., with official greetings from the Mayor of Capri, Paolo Falco, the Councilor for Sports, Alberto Santarpia, and the special touch of this year’s ambassador, Ginevra Taddeucci, four-time silver medalist at the recent World Swimming Championships in Singapore.
Twenty athletes (13 men and 7 women) from eight nations—Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Italy, North Macedonia, Czech Republic, and Spain—will compete for victory in the race, part of the World Challenge of the Ultramarathon Swim Series. Defending the titles will be Italian swimmer Andrea Occhipinti, a three-time winner, and Argentine swimmer Mayte Puca, champion of the last two editions.
The start from Le Ondine marks not only the beginning of the race but also the beating heart of the event, with Capri once again becoming an international stage for open-water swimming.
Highlights of the race will be broadcast live on TeleCapri, and thanks to GPS tracking, spectators will be able to follow the course and progress of the swimmers in real time. The finish is scheduled for the afternoon in front of the Circolo Canottieri Napoli, where awards and ancillary events will take place.
